Literature Text

some british guy in a band (his name
i do not know)
sings a series of notes that
clamber through
my ribs like a spasm and

well, it's close to a religious awakening
and it's like being punched
in the gut - a whole month's worth of flowers
bloom at once

magnolias
and jonquils and lilies
sprout and quiver
in my throat

ibises land in the paddock to shelter from the storm
snow-white and stoic they stand impassive
amongst the rain

baby chickens break through their shells
with a bloody, plastered-wet tenacity
i think i can understand

one of them is born wrong, his guts
are falling out

small things die and big things
die
and the world does not mourn them
and humanity inhales
rapid and shuddering like a mouse

a thousand curtains are drawn aside
like ghosts - suddenly i
shiver

i take my bellyfull of universe-sized epiphany
and draw it around myself like a blanket

breathe in,

then out

what do i do with this thing?
:iconglory-be-project: I remember in one of L.M. Montgomery's books, about a girl called Emily, I think, she'd write about solitary moments, usually at twilight, where it 'seemed a curtain had been twitched aside' or something of the like. That image has always stuck with me. So I guess credit to Lucy Maud for that.
